1) The smokestack or chimney of a ships’ stove. According to legend, named after a persnickety sea captain who required the smokestack to be polished every day. Typically hot, especially when smoking.

2) A pod of pelagic pep-band refugees brought to brotherhood by the twin siren call of the sea and good-time foot-stompin Americana. Typically smokin, when hot.

The Charlie Nobles are the house band on The Schooner Stephen Taber out of Rockland, ME. They return to make their land grab at Ada's Kitchen on Friday June 11.
